Care for Fish:

The very first thing you want to do is take a photo of your fish. The fish will begin to lose color about 1 hour after it has been caught. A photo is a great reference tool for your taxidermist during airbrushing so that he/she may stay true to the fish's original appearance. The second thing you want to do is to put the fish on ice until you get home. NEVER gut the fish. Once home, wrap it in clear plastic wrap, place in trash bag and tape it shut. This will preserve your fish until you can take it to your taxidermist.
